Privacy & photography
There is no cookie banner on this site because there is nothing to consent to.
What this website collects
No cookies, and nothing that identifies you. Specifically:
- No cookies are set by this site, which is why there is no cookie banner.
- No advertising pixels, and no trackers that follow you to other websites.
- No forms, so nothing you type is ever sent anywhere.
- No third-party content. Fonts, images and styles are all served from this domain, so no other company sees that you visited.
Visitor counts
We do count page views, using Vercel Web Analytics — the club likes knowing whether anyone reads this. It is deliberately the privacy-respecting kind: it sets no cookies and does not follow you to other websites. It records the page you looked at, roughly where in the world you are, and what sort of browser and device you used.
It does not store your IP address. To avoid counting the same person twice in a day it derives a temporary identifier from your IP address and browser, which is discarded and regenerated every day and cannot be traced back to you. The club sees totals and popular pages, never individuals.
If you would rather not be counted at all, any browser setting or extension that blocks analytics will stop it, and nothing on the site breaks.
Server logs
The site is a set of static files. Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs of requests — the kind every web server keeps — and the club does not have access to anything in them that identifies you.
Links away from here
Links to Chess67, the US Chess Federation and Google Maps take you to those companies' sites, which have their own privacy policies and their own cookies. Event listings on this site are copied from the club's Chess67 calendar when the site is built; your browser never contacts Chess67 unless you click through.
If you email Events@SuperiorChess.club, we keep your message for as long as it takes to deal with it and we do not add you to any list.
Photography at club events
We take photographs at club nights and publish a selection on this website and in club communications to show what the club is like and to welcome new players. By attending a Superior Chess Club event, you agree that you and any children in your care may be photographed, and that the club may use those images for these purposes without payment.
We will not sell images, share them with third parties for advertising, or publish the full name of a child alongside a photograph without a parent's specific permission.
If you would prefer not to appear — or not to have your child appear — tell an organiser at any time or email Events@SuperiorChess.club, and we will respect that without fuss. Requests to remove a published image are always honoured.
How we photograph
In practice we default to photographs that show a busy, friendly room without identifying anyone: hands on pieces, a full table from behind, a parent and child mid-game from the side. Identifiable portraits of children are reserved for cases where a parent has specifically said yes.
The Stable Bar & Grill is somebody else's business, with their staff and their other customers in it. Whoever is holding the camera frames on club tables and keeps the bar and other diners out of shot.
Getting a photograph taken down
Email Events@SuperiorChess.club with enough description to identify it. You do not need to give a reason, and we will not ask for one.
Changes
If this notice changes, the new version replaces this page. The club will mention any change that matters at a club night rather than relying on you to re-read a web page.
